We’re considering encoding Micro reports (bacteriology, parasitology, virology, mycology, mycobacteriology) from VistA in FHIR. There are order codes but we can’t use them because the result relationship we can trace is : (indeterminate). We can assert, though, that a result from the Bacteriology table is Bacteriology, etc.
We identified these LOINC codes for the 5 domains:
92894-5 Microbiology - bacterial studies Microbiology - bacterial studies Find Pt ^Patient Doc Order
92893-7 Microbiology - viral studies Microbiology - viral studies Find Pt ^Patient Doc Order
96397-5 Microbiology - mycobacteriology studies Document Microbiology - mycobacteriology studies Find Pt ^Patient Doc Both
96398-3 Microbiology - mycology studies Document Microbiology - mycology studies Find Pt ^Patient Doc Both
92892-9 Microbiology - parasitic studies Microbiology - parasitic studies Find Pt ^Patient Doc Order
Problem: 3 of them specify that they are to be used for “Order” rather than “Observation” or “both”. How strictly should we interpret that property? The guide (9.1.3) says this is “not a normative or binding resolution,” so I think we should be OK, but wondering about other perspectives.
