Unknown codes from lab

I am a terminologist/ontologist for a private company working with oncology data. I keep coming across items like “FH_013” and “FH_022”, plus many others in this same format, that are listed in the LOINC field in the EMR patient lab results data. However, I am unable to find any information on these items. Does anyone know anything about these codes? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Robin,

Is it possible these are “placeholder” terms with a local meaning where a LOINC doesn’t currently exist? The LOINC User’s Guide allows for locally assigned fields when the site is waiting for a submission to be completed. I checked the currently LOINC submission queue for these abbreviations, but came up blank.

When you say you can’t find any information, does that include access to the originating EMR site? Are you able to see their HL7 messages (as a thought to problem solve further).

Thanks for considering,

Hi Pam. Thank you for getting back to me.

I am getting this data from multiple, unrelated clients. And by not finding ‘any’ information, I mean I have searched Google and other topic-specific sites like LOINC, and cannot find any information at all on what these might be. A few of the codes match part numbers for a clothing line. That’s it.

My first thought, after realizing that they’re in the data for multiple clients, was that they are related to the HL7 messages, but I don’t have access to those messages to dig deeper. I did a little searching related to HL7 and haven’t come up with anything yet.

One thing that all of these clients have in common is that they’re all using the Onco EMR, which is an oncology-specific EMR. That’s my next direction to head.

Hi Robin,

It’s interesting that Onco EMR is owned by Flatiron Health (FH). I think your next step is reasonable to ask.

Thank you very much, Pam. I will definitely do that.
