LOINC for bilateral kidneys w/full pelvic ultrasound

Trying to find LOINC for OHIP codes J128, ltd abdo, and J162 full pelvic. I see code 69402-6 but i’m not sure if that is full or ltd pelvic. Looks like ltd.

You’re reading this correctly. LOINC 69402-6 represents a limited pelvic ultrasound, not a full study.

A key thing to keep in mind is that LOINC does not mirror OHIP billing distinctions (full vs limited). LOINC models clinical intent and anatomy, whereas OHIP codes represent schedule-of-benefits billing concepts. Because of that, the mapping isn’t always 1:1.

For the codes you mentioned:

  • OHIP J128 – Limited Abdomen US
    This is commonly mapped to LOINC 39603-3 (Ultrasound Abdomen). LOINC doesn’t explicitly encode “limited,” so most implementations use the generic abdomen ultrasound code and retain “limited” in the billing or local service context.

  • OHIP J162 – Full Pelvic US
    69402-6 is not appropriate here, as it explicitly represents limited pelvis.
