LOINC codes for lab results abstracted from unstructured clinical documents

We are starting to use LLM to take unstructured data, which includes lab values, and structure it in our EMR, so it’s not stuck in a PDF that remains unusable.

Has anyone done this? If so, what LOINCs are you using?
Ideally, there would be some sort of LOINC code or even modifier to indicate this result was abstracted from unstructured data.

Hi Jennifer,

I just came across your post and see no one responded to your request for input regarding how others are handling this or similar situation.

Based on my understanding of processing unstructured data and transforming the data into structured data is part of data provenance (https://scivast.com/articles/understanding-data-provenance-importance-applications/) and would not be represented as part of a standardized terminology. I don’t believe it is within the scope of a standardized terminology to set a modifier to indicate the source of the data.

It may be valuable for you to review HL7 FHIR data provenance information ( Basic Provenance - US Core Implementation Guide v9.0.0 )

I hope this helps.

John
