Interpreting MG Breast versus MG Guidance codes

Good morning,

I am seeking feedback on the intended use of the MG codes. I am trying to identify which codes represent mammograms where the purpose was to detect, diagnose or monitor breast tissue. I identified the following codes as appropriate (there are more but these are two examples):

  • 46336-4 (MG Breast - left Single view)
  • 72138-1 (DBT Breast - left Diagnostic)

The ScaleType is Document and my *assumption* is that the document would contain the interpretation/results. Is it correct that these codes would never be used outside of the purpose to detect, diagnose or monitor breast tissue (for example, taking an image solely to identify the placement of a device)?

Is it correct that the “MG Guidance” codes should be used when the mammography was performed for device placement purposes? These codes are also Document so I *assume* the document describes the device placement procedure (and possibly the final position of the device)?

*I am not a clinician so I’ve made some assumptions based on the basic knowledge I have about mammography. Apologies if some of these are incorrect.

Thank you for any help you can provide!
