Canada has developed a Canadian Organ Donation and Transplantation (CanODT) Minimum Data Set (MDS) to standardize data collection and reporting for organ donation and transplantation. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance this dataset, some updates to the HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) data element are being evaluated.
One of the proposed changes involves refining the data element from HLA DP to HLA DPB to align more closely with specific antigen reporting. However, we were unable to identify a corresponding LOINC code for HLA DPB antigens.
Here is the link to CanODT Transplantation MSD : https://www.cihi.ca/sites/default/files/document/organ-donation-transplantation-deceased-donation-minimum-data-set-manual-en.pdf
See section 4.5.1 HLA DP for the current definition for this data element
- HLA DPB : The recipient’s 2 HLA DPB antigens.
- Additional values include :
- 37501000087101: Human leukocyte antigen typing — No antigen identified
- UNK: Unknown/not available/typing not done
- OTH: Other
The LOINC code currently referenced is HLA-DP [Type]: 12285-3, and the value set codes are sourced from the SNOMED CT Canadian Edition, with additional values (UNK and OTH) from HL7.
We are reaching out to seek guidance or assistance in identifying a suitable LOINC code for the HLA DPB antigen data element.
Any advice or direction you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your expertise and support!
