Is there any plan in the near future for creating Document Ontology Display Names? Also, what is the rule used to build the Long Common Name and Short Name? We are seeing mixed of upper and lower case in both names in the LOINC db.
For example:
LOINC_NUM
SHORTNAME
LONG_COMMON_NAME
34122-2
Pathology Procedure note
Pathology procedure note
34819-3
Pathology Note
Pathology Note
60570-9
Pathology Consult note

Thanks in advance for sharing any information regarding this topic
Hi Tim,
Are there any new updates on this topic? We use LOINC Long Common Name and Short Name as viewer names for report display in our provincial viewer, but the inconsistency of the names’ format with mix of uppercase and lowercase does not look uniform and so we must do additional work to make it consistent. Here is an example:
LOINC 68783-0
LCN: Pediatric pulmonology Preoperative evaluation and management note
SN: Peds pulmonology Pre-op note
eCHN 68783-0
LCN: Pediatric Pulmonology Preoperative Evaluation and Management Note
SN: Peds pulmonology pre-op note
I realize that the names are concatenation of different columns, but it would be nice to obtain these names in a consistent format in the future.
Thank you, Salve, for the reminder on this issue. We definitely want to be consistent in our naming approach. As you indicated, the names are built programmatically from Parts. It will be a large undertaking for us to address these Part names to ensure appropriate casing. It is something we want to accomplish but I can’t say it is a high priority at this time. We will keep it on our to-do list for future work.
Hi Salve, I am in support of Tim’s response on our end. I wanted to suggest and may be you already did this, but do you think you may have on your end, in your system a way to standardize/change these descriptions to your likings? Until we do this effort and address this work it may take sometime, so just a thought…thank you
