CD169 on monocytes

Can I submit (through the proper form) a LOINC code for CD169+ on monocytes? I think monocytes are not a System by itself. If not, what would be the proper System? In this case monocytes are identified by FACS analysis as either CD14+ or CD14- CD16+ WBC.

Hello Dr. Bakkeren! Good to hear from you. I would imagine we would use the gating strategy to identify the monocytic portion of WBCs and in the same component name add the CD169+ finding. I understand there can be different “paths” to get to a cell type, and I don’t believe we have come to a decision on how to account for multiple “paths” to become synonyms. Cells.CD14+CD169+ could be a component; but you’re also saying Cells.CD14-CD16+CD169+ is a target, correct?

I would encourage you to submit the form to get the request in the queue. See if your lab only accepts blood as the specimen; I believe monocytes are found in tissue as well. I only found one LOINC with Bld/Tiss as the specimen and Flow Cytometry as the method.
All the best,
Pam

Thank you Pam, yes I support submission.
