I would like to clarify the process of mapping microbiology concepts. What happens when a laboratory distinguishes between manual plate culture and automated culture in its LIS? Should both procedures be mapped to the same LOINC code that includes ‘culture’ in the method? I found only one code that has ‘automated’ in its method: 99932-6 Bacteria [Presence] in Body fluid by Automated. In this laboratory, this distinction applies to multiple procedures involving various specimen types. I would be grateful for an explanation.
