While reviewing the LOINC release content, I’ve noticed that some components still leverage outdated organism names. I was wondering whether it might be possible to review the bacterial content and update it to reflect current naming conventions. A good starting point would be organisms that were formerly classified within the genus _Mycoplasma_. A few examples are listed below, though the list could be expanded further by leveraging basionyms or the homotypic synonym relationships identified by LPSN.

Example: Mycoplasma hominis is now Metamycoplasma hominis

- [Taxonomy browser Taxonomy Browser (Metamycoplasma hominis)](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy/Browser/wwwtax.cgi?command=show&mode=node&id=2098&lvl=) NCBI
- [Species: Metamycoplasma hominis](https://lpsn.dsmz.de/species/metamycoplasma-hominis)
- LOINC code: 114804-8 Mycoplasma hominis DNA:PrThr:Pt:{Specimen}:Ord:{Molgen} (there are multiple)

Example: Mycoplasma agalactiae is now Mycoplasmopsis agalactiae

- [Taxonomy browser Taxonomy Browser (Mycoplasmopsis agalactiae)](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy/Browser/wwwtax.cgi?command=show&mode=node&id=2110&lvl=) NCBI
- [Species: Mycoplasmopsis agalactiae](https://lpsn.dsmz.de/species/mycoplasmopsis-agalactiae) LPSN
- LOINC code: 114813-9 Mycoplasma agalactiae DNA:PrThr:Pt:{Specimen}:Ord:{Molgen} (there are multiple)

Example: Mycoplasma genitalium is the basionym of Mycoplasmoides genitalium in NCBI and a valid homotypic synonym in LPSN

- [Taxonomy browser Taxonomy Browser (Mycoplasmoides genitalium)](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy/Browser/wwwtax.cgi?command=show&mode=node&id=2097&lvl=) NCBI (basionym Mycoplasma agalactiae)
- [Species: Mycoplasmoides genitalium](https://lpsn.dsmz.de/species/mycoplasmoides-genitalium) LPSN (valid homotypic synonym Mycoplasma agalactiae)
- LOINC code: 114806-3 Mycoplasma genitalium DNA:PrThr:Pt:{Specimen}:Ord:{Molgen} (there are multiple)
