System not available for N. gonorrhoeae DNA Probe

Postby hpike » Wed Aug 29, 2012 10:40 am

I cannot seem to find a LOINC for a component of N. gonorrhoeae DNA, System of Cvx, and Method of Probe. Any options for cervix are for Chlam and Neisseria together or are for rRNA, not N. gonorrhoeae alone which is what I need . I was able to find a LOINC for the C. trachomatis DNA (21190-4) but I cannot find an equivalent match for the gonorrhoeae.

Un-amplified probes usually detect rRNA, not DNA. What is the name of the test kit that you are using?

We are using the BDProveTec ET C. trachomatic and N. gonorrhoeae Amplified DNA Assay. The package insert has the following:
INTENDED USE
The BDProbeTec ET Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) Amplified DNA Assays, when tested with the BDProbeTec ET System, use Strand Displacement Amplification (SDA) technology for the direct, qualitative detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA in endocervical swabs, male urethral swabs, and in female and male urine specimens as evidence of infection with C. trachomatis, N. gonorrhoeae, or of co-infection with both C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae.

The test that you cited does not differentiate between Chlamydia & GC, so the LOINC code for a cervical specimen is
45068-4 Chlamydia trachomatis+Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA:Pt:ACnc:Cvx:Ord:Probe.amp.tar.

Hope this helps.

I went back to the Technical Coordinator of Microbiology and she assured me that the assay they run differentiates between the two. The kit I refered to is catalog number 440705. I was able to find a match on the website for the chlamydia?

Thanks for the clarification. The system for the following code is cervicl mucos and I think you can assume it means the same as cvx.
21414-8 - Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA:Pt:ACnc:Cvm:Ord:Probe.amp.tar
